The aim of this year’s KTLA campaign theme Fathers & Sons – “in their own words”, was to utilise everyday lifestyle activities such as theatre and music as a medium and platform where we could give a voice and hear the views of Fathers and Sons in their own words.
Our concept was to focus on Fathers and Son in a bid to balance the current negative press attention about Black men and Black boy’s being hard to engage in many areas of life such as parenting, education and crime.
The script was written through 2as1’s campaign direction, based on issues raised in real life case studies, participant observations and findings extracted from relationship counselling, 2as1’s Positive Parenting Course and 2as1’s National Positive Parenting Questionnaire.
With the production piece designed to accompany 2as1’s Music Therapy; an open balanced debate with facilitated audience participation, the characters and a panel of experts; the show very cleverly concluded with the audience voting for an alternative ending in a reality interactive style.
Mike Kelly - CEO quote
“The Black Father and Son relationship is not a negative experience. We all, regardless of race or gender, throughout our lives come face to face with situations that challenge us. The key to healthy relationships is to understand the role we play in bringing out the best in others. At 2as1 we believe in empowering individuals to empower others. “

"Congratulations to 2as1 on the launch of their Fathers & Sons Campaign. In taking forward Every Parents Matter, the Department is keen for our strategic partners to find innovative, creative and inclusive approaches to engage all parents in the shaping and delivery of services. Through this campaign, 2as1 have begun a dialogue to highlight the important role that fathers play in bringing up their children as well as tackling the negative stereotypes about engaging Black fathers. Well done."
