Is my lifestyle active enough?
Eating healthily is one part of the jigsaw, keeping fit and taking care of yourself is another and involves striking a balance between what you eat and how active you are.
Most of us don’t create enough activity into our daily lives. Being active keeps our muscles toned; works out our heart and burns up energy – all this is essential to a healthy lifestyle. How much time are you spending sitting in at your desk, in your car, on the sofa in front of the television or computer?
It is advised that we should take at least 30 minutes of exercise a day even if it is split into separate intervals.
This can easily be incorporated into your daily lifestyle – try walking, cycling, dancing, football, jogging, gardening, taking the stairs instead of the lifts, even housework gets our heart beating a little faster.
You don’t have to be a sporty type – just put a bit more effort into your physical tasks and rely less on labour saving devices is a good start. Don’t try to do too much in one go especially if your use to being inactive. Gradually build up your activity levels - set realistic goals - because staying fit means staying active.
If you have a medical condition, or are recovering from an illness or surgery, check with your doctor before you start.
