Skipping Breakfast?

Do you tend to skip breakfast on school days because you didn’t wake up in time – or you couldn’t be bothered to make it?
Skipping breakfast can lead to overeating during the rest of the day and you could end up overcompensating for what you missed at breakfast time.

While you are sleeping, your body needs fuel to keep your heart beating, nerves transmitting, and cells dividing, (just to name a few). Much of that fuel comes from the readily available stores of glucose in the blood, liver and muscles.

Your body needs to refuel after fasting for 8 to 12 hours whilst you were asleep. That first meal of the day literally breaks the fast.
If children and adults don’t get the fuel needed in the morning, your body will not function as well throughout the day.

Children who eat a balanced breakfast:
• have fewer problems controlling their weight
• have better concentration and learning abilities in school
• make healthier eating choices throughout the day

Starting the day with a nutritious breakfast helps to provide the right sources of energy and fuel needed to focus and stay active all day.

Preparing a healthy breakfast doesn’t have to take a long time in the morning. Here are some quick and healthy choices:
1. a yogurt and fruit
2. cereal with milk and fruit
3. toast with marmalade or peanut butter and a glass of juice
4. an egg and toast and a glass of juice

TIP. Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day!
